ICARDA Internship

ICARDA's internship program is designed to provide practical experience in research and other areas of the Center's activities for eligible applicants.
The subject should be of mutual interest to the intern and the hosting Program/Unit of ICARDA.

The internship will usually be for a period of one to six months, as per the need, and is not intended to lead to an advanced degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.).

The practical experience provided during the internship would complement and strengthen the intern's academic study and provide contacts in the professional spheres that s/he is likely to enter at later stages in preparation for an advanced degree.

On the other hand, the intern is expected to contribute to enhanced research efforts in the host Program/Unit of the Center by bringing in diversity and additional dynamism in the research team.

Internship Application Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

·         A limited number of internships will be available every year for applicants from the Central and West Asia and North Africa (CWANA) region as well as from out side.

·         Priority will be given to applicants from the region and those who are self-funded.

·         Candidates must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment with research and support staff of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.

·         Their work will be within the ICARDA on-going research programs and activities and should not be part of or lead to any degree training.

·         Fluency in English, some prior research experience, computing skills, and working knowledge of other languages (Arabic and French) would be advantageous. A selection committee would review all applications.

Humphrey Student Fellowships

The Canadian Council on International Law awards annually up to four John Peters Humphrey Student Fellowships in International Human Rights Law or International Organization.
The Fellowships are awarded to outstanding students in order to permit them to pursue full-time graduate studies at leading graduate institutions in Canada or worldwide.

Students in Canadian law and political science (or their equivalent) faculties are eligible to apply for the Fellowship.

Each Fellowship will fund the recipient up to CDN$35,000 – up to a maximum of CDN$25,000 for tuition and fees, plus a stipend of CDN$10,000 for living expenses.

Fellowship holders will be eligible to apply for the Fellowship in open competition for a second term.

Place your letter in a sealed envelope and sign it across the seal.

Human Rights Watch Internships

Human Rights Watch offers academic semester and summer internships for undergraduate students in New York, London, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Brussels, and Berlin offices.
Interns may be placed in one of the following regional or thematic programs at Human Rights Watch: Africa, the Americas (does not include US or Canada), Asia, Europe & Central Asia, Middle East & North Africa, United States, Arms, Children's Rights, Women's Rights, HIV/AIDS & Human Rights, Business & Human Rights, Refugees, Emergency Response, Terrorism/Counterterrorism, International Justice, and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Rights. Internships also are available with the Advocacy, Communications & Press, Development & Outreach, Legal & Policy, Human Resources and Finance & Administration departments as well as the International Film Festival.

Undergraduate internships are primarily administrative and clerical in nature, but other projects can be assigned as they arise and match the student's interests and abilities, including research, drafting documents, translating, and helping researchers prepare for missions.

Qualifications:

·         Applicants should be well-organized, self-motivated and reliable, with a strong interest in international human rights.

·         Relevant coursework is highly desirable, and knowledge of foreign languages is a plus. Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications) are required.
