Worldwide Work Experience Placements

Practical work experience training placements for students are arranged by the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE).

Placements are, however, only available to countries with a National International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) Committee.

Duration: Usually, traineeships are two to three months in duration with various firms, institutions of higher education and research institutes.

In individual cases, traineeships of extended duration can be arranged.

Value: Trainees are usually paid per month; the DAAD, however, is not able to grant additional funds to cover travel costs.

Placement Requirements:

·         Specific information on conditions of eligibility is available from the National IAESTE Committee of the member country concerned.

·         Language Proficiency: In many cases a good knowledge of English is sufficient.

World Bank Internship Program

The Internship Program is open to students who are nationals of the Bank's member countries and attracts a large number of highly qualified candidates.

The goal of this Internship Program is to offer successful candidates an opportunity to improve their skills as well as the experience of working in an international environment.

Interns generally find the experience to be rewarding and interesting.

To be eligible for the Internship Program, candidates must possess an undergraduate degree and already be enrolled in a full-time graduate study program (pursuing a Master's degree or PhD with plans to return to school in a full-time capacity.

Generally, successful candidates have completed their first year of graduate studies or are already into their PhD programs.

This Program typically seeks candidates in the following fields:

·         Economics, finance, human development (public health, education, nutrition, population), social science (anthropology, sociology), agriculture, environment, private sector development, as well as other related fields.

·         Fluency in English is required.

·         Prior relevant work experience, computing skills, as well as knowledge of languages such as French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and Chinese are advantageous.

The World Bank Group Internship Program is offered during two seasons:

·         Summer (June-September)

·         Winter (December-March)

The Bank pays an hourly salary to all Interns and, where applicable, provides an allowance towards travel expenses.

Interns are responsible for their own living accommodations.

Work Experience Placements in UK

Applications invited for 3 months training & work experience placements in London.

International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA) is an initiative set up by leading law firms and academics, which aims to develop African lawyers’ legal skills in international law, banking and finance, corporate and commercial law and dispute resolution in an international context.

Applications are invited from qualified lawyers:

·         Working or seeking to work in private practice or government service

·         Committed to developing their legal skills in international law, commercial law and/or dispute resolution

Candidate Specification

·         Degree in law or and admitted to practise as a lawyer in home jurisdiction

·         Excellent academics (minimum of a 2.1 or equivalent) from a university with a reputable law faculty

·         Professional legal experience at the national level, with emphasis in public international law, corporate and commercial or banking and finance law

·         Experience as Government/state lawyers in the context of international law preferable

·         Not more than associate level post-qualification experience i.e. not a partner

·         Fluency in spoken and written English essential

·         Written undertaking to complete the placement

·         Written undertaking to return home after completion of the placement

The Placement

Candidates will be placed with commercial law firms. As such, their legal expertise should match those of the host firm’s areas of practice e.g. corporate and commercial law, dispute resolution (arbitration, litigation and ADR), public international law, banking and finance.

·         Visa fee

·         Flight arrangements

·         Airfares

·         Appropriate accommodation (food and laundry facilities not provided)

·         A weekly allowance

·         Monthly travel card for buses and underground trains which cover travel in the London area only

WFP Internship Programme

The objectives of the Internship Programme are to promote among the participants a better understanding of the United Nations and of the World Food Programme.

Internships provide Divisions at headquarters or country offices with the assistance of outstanding young students specializing in fields relevant to WFP activities.

WFP will cover the intern for medical insurance during working hours, and provide a stipend. Travel and upkeep is not covered by WFP.

The following criteria are used to determine eligibility for the Internship Programme:

·         Applicants must be currently enrolled in a university or graduate school and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies.

·         Spouses, sons, daughters, brothers or sisters of staff members will not be considered eligible for this Programme.
