IKP Grand Challenges Explorations Second Call for Proposals 2012

A second call for proposals has been issued by the IKP Grand Challenges Explorations (IKP-GCE) to encourage and nurture innovation in areas that impact global health.

Implemented in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the IKP-GCE is an opportunity to put yourself on the same platform as Grand Challenges Explorations (GCE) grantees from all over the world, while also leveraging the mentorship, resources and network that IKP offers. If selected you will be recognized as a GCE Phase I grantee, and will be eligible for a Phase I funding of USD 100,000 for a period of 18 months to two years. Successful projects will have the opportunity to apply for a follow-on grant of up to USD 1 Million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The competition is seeking ideas to create drugs, vaccines, diagnostics, devices and delivery systems that will address the health issues as delinated by the Gates Foundation such as malaria, pneumonia, enteric and diarrheal diseases, maternal, neonatal and child health, neglected and other infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS, polio, tuberculosis, family planning and nutrition.

Proposals will be selected based on the following criteria:

1. Novelty in innovation
2. Potential Societal Impact
3. Access and Affordability to end users
4. Sustainability – commercialization and commoditization
5. Alignment with goals of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s GCE program
6. 18 Month Plan and Execution Capability
