USAID/Tanzania Grants towards Caring for Children and Empowering Young People (C2EYP)

The United States Agency for International Development Mission in Tanzania (USAID/Tanzania) anticipates a five-year cooperative agreement for a project entitled Caring for Children and Empowering Young People (C2EYP). The project targets the most vulnerable children (MVC) and young people, orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC).

Under this project, USAID seeks to enable more MVC and other young people to access services for improving health, nutrition, education, protection, livelihoods and psychosocial well-being. For achieving this, the project will build the capacity of caregivers to provide care and access to services for their children and young people. The program also seeks to improve and expand age-appropriate service utilization for children and young people, especially hard-to-reach children.

USAID is focusing the project in seventeen regions, divided preliminarily into five zones.

1. Lake: Geita, Tabora, Kagera, Mara, Mwanza, Simiyu
2. Southern Highlands: Mbeya, Rukwa, Ruvuma, Katavi
3. Central Dodoma: Dodoma, Iringa, Njombe, Singida
4. Coastal: Dar es Salaam, Unguja
5. Northern: Arusha

USAID/Tanzania intends to provide $65 million in total USAID funding for the life of the activity (five years). The period of performance anticipated is five (5) years.

• Parents, caregivers and communities are skilled to provide healthy, safe and nurturing environments for vulnerable children.
• Increased most vulnerable children (MVC) utilization of age-appropriate essential services.

The SHL Grants to Non-Profits in Western Balkans: Up to EUR 155,000 for Educational Youth Project Activities

The Foundation Schüler Helfen Leben (SHL) invites non-profit organizations in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia to submit applications for support of educational youth projects activities. The Foundation aims to realize the potential of children and youth, activism and empowerment with an emphasis on the benefits of disadvantaged children and youth.

The SHL supports activities that promote the development of formal and informal education of children and youth and contribute to sustainable development in terms of youth empowerment and more.

The SHL funding ranged in between EUR125,000-155,000. Annually one project is funded for up to two years project implementation.

3. 16 February 2015 – Long-application submission deadline

Eligibility criteria

• Applicants must be non-profit organizations in the following countries Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.
• Applicants must have worked professionally for several years and must be able to demonstrate this through certain documents such as statutes, vision/mission and strategy, financial statements, etc. Experience with similar projects and networking with local partners is an advantage when applying.
• Own resources and third party funding for the project are desirable, but not a requirement.
• The projects should enable young people to have access to training, education or care and be open for all youth regardless of gender, religion, nationality, origins, financial situation and the societal group to which they belong.

2015 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders

The Young African leaders between 25-35 years of age who are eligible to receive a United States J-1 Visa to apply for the 2015 Mandela Washington Fellowship, a merit-based open competition – the new flagship program of President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). The application will open on 7 October & close on 5 November 2014.

Among all the applicants, select semifinalists will be chosen and interviewed by the US embassies or consulates in their home countries. These selected candidates must provide a copy of their passport (if available) or other government-issued photo identification to verify eligibility.

3. An optional 8-week U.S. Internship

FRIDA’s Third Round of Grants: Youth-led Funds for Social Justice

FRIDA | The Young Feminist Fund has announced the launch of its third call for proposals. FRIDA is the youth-led fund focused exclusively on supporting global young feminist activism to advance social justice movements and agendas.

It was created to bring new resources and new opportunities to young women and trans* youth globally. We believe that supporting young feminists is key to the expansion, rejuvenation and sustainability of women’s movements and organizations, both now and in the future. To date, FRIDA has completed two grant cycles in 2012 and 2013, and cumulatively supported 32 different groups of young feminists in 28 different countries around the world and awarding a total of 196,000 USD in direct grants.

Who can apply?

• Groups founded or led by young women or trans* youth (under 30 ykears) that are committed to:
• Advancing and defending women’s rights from a feminist perspective;
• Improving the lives of young women/transgender youth at local, national, regional or international levels;
• Inclusive organizing, collective action and feminist movement building
• Groups, networks, or collectives based in the Global South (Africa, Asia and the Pacific, The Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean and Central, Southern, Eastern Europe and Caucuses and Central Asia).
• Groups founded in the past 5 years (i.e. your group was formed between 2010 – 2014).

Priority will be given to:

• Small, emerging grassroots groups, networks, or collectives with little or no access to funding from larger donors.
• Groups, networks, or collectives that are working on emerging or issues that have not received prior funding.
• Groups, networks, or collectives located in remote underserved areas.
• Groups, networks, or collectives that are diverse in their membership and made up of and/or working with socially marginalized young women especially: refugees, ethnic, national and caste minorities, rural women, urban poor, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, women living with HIV/AIDS, sex workers, women with disabilities, women living in armed conflicts and post conflict zones.
• Groups using creative and innovative strategies to further their activism (including art, music, culture, poetry, social media etc).

UN-HABITAT’s Urban Youth Fund 2014 now open!

The UN-HABITAT’s Urban Youth Fund provides funding support to young people from developing countries to work towards advancing the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and the Habitat agenda.
The Urban Youth Fund aims to assist youth-led organizations to develop and implement projects that will contribute to sustainable urbanization in the developing world. The fund further aims to document best practices from successful youth-led projects, and create greater awareness of the need for youth mainstreaming in development policies and strategies. Its aims are to:
    Mobilize young people for better youth-related policy formulation;
    Help governments, non-governmental, civil society and private sector organizations better understand and respond to youth concerns;
    Support youth information networks;
    Pilot and demonstrate new ideas on employment, governance, adequate shelter and secure tenure;
    Share and exchange best practices;
    Promote vocational training and credit mechanisms for entrepreneurship and employment;
    Promote gender mainstreaming in all urban youth matters.

The Urban Youth Fund has an annual budget of USD 1 million allocated for grants to youth-led projects in the developing world. Grassroots initiatives and projects are eligible for grants up USD 25,000.
Applicant organizations must be led by young people aged 15-32 years. However, adults above the age of 32 years may still take part in the organization and youth-adult partnerships are highly encouraged.
Support is given to youth-led development projects involving young people actively creating a better future for themselves and their communities. These projects often take place at the grassroots level and are largely carried out by youth volunteers. Initiatives address a broad range of community needs such as employment, access to affordable housing and secure land tenure, safer cities and participation in decision-making. Youth-led Development gives young people valuable skills such as project management and teamwork, thus boosting their ability to acquire jobs and participate actively in society.

Youth Action Net Laureate Global Fellowship 2014 for Young Leaders

Youth Action Net is seeking applications from young leaders who have pioneered solutions to urgent challenges in their communities and beyond for Laureate Global Fellowships 2014. The major purpose of the fellowship program is to develop leadership expertise in young leaders and deepen their impact through a dynamic, year-long learning experience. Fellows also get an opportunity to join a network of over 900 change-makers like them who continue to benefit from learning opportunities and connections throughout their social change careers.
Eligibility Criteria –
    Applicants must be 18 – 29 years old as of 1 October 2014
    Applicants must be the founders or co-founders of existing ventures with at least one year of impact.
    Applicants must be fluent in English and must be committed to  attend a week-long leadership retreat in October 2014.
