Student Writing Competition

Graduate and law students worldwide are invited to submit articles on the issue of how organizational ombudsmen can avoid being deemed as agents for notice.

The author of the winning article will receive a cash prize of $2,500 and an invitation to the International Ombudsman Association (IOA) Annual Conference in April in Portland, OR - USA to receive the award.

IOA will provide registration, airfare and lodging for the conference. The winning article may also be published in the Journal of IOA.

Scholarship Eligibility:

The competition is open to any student in good standing at any law school or graduate program in dispute resolution anywhere in the world. Authors need not be members of IOA.

Call for Proposals for Children and Violence Evaluation Challenge Fund

Children and Violence Evaluation Challenge Fund’s First Call for Proposals

The Children and Violence Evaluation Challenge Fund is an initiative aimed at reducing the prevalence of violence against children by funding quality EVALUATIONS of violence prevention and child protection interventions in low- and middle-income countries. It has issued its first call for proposals aimed at funding quality evaluations of violence prevention programmes in low- and middle-income countries.

The thematic focus area for the first round of call for proposals is: PREVENTIVE strategies to reduce VIOLENCE (including physical, emotional and/or sexual violence) occurring in FAMILY SETTINGS and affecting CHILDREN, including – but not limited to – the youngest children (0-8 years).

The geographical focus of the call for proposals is on any of the low- and middle-income countries, as listed in the latest DAC list of ODA recipients (August 2009). For the list of these countries, visit this link.

The following organizations are eligible to apply for the Children and Violence Evaluation Challenge grant programme as main applicant:

• Non-governmental and/or non-profit organizations, both local and international;
• Research institutes and/or universities, both local and foreign.

Up to EUR 750,000 is the total amount of funding that it is anticipated will be allocated through the first call for proposals. Funds will be divided into a number of separate grants. The length of the grants will vary according to the complexity of the intervention being evaluated and the type of evaluation proposed. Grants cannot exceed 3 years.

Transparency International Internship in Kenya

A permanent and effective system that would provide valuable work experience to students pursuing their studies at a first degree, Masters degree and Ph.D. degree levels.
This is a critical bridge between the world of study and the work place for young professionals.

Interns will be assigned to relevant programme /manager for supervision throughout the internship period.

Each programme at TI-K:

·         shall make provision to accommodate its interns.

·         shall ensure that interns have work to do and are afforded quality supervision.

·         shall ensure that the interns are aware of their rights, obligations and responsibilities.

·         shall ensure that professional competencies of the intern are enhanced by allocating the intern lesser or no administrative tasks.

·         Preference for internship will be given to students from Kenya.

Responsibilities of the Intern:

·         The intern shall demonstrate willingness to fully and actively participate in the learning experience in the TI-K by planning their programme with the Mentor.

·         The intern shall participate in the introduction and orientation programmes of the TI-K.

·         The intern shall avail himself/herself for relevant skills development intervention planned by the TI-K.

·         International Interns shall organise her/his own work-permit for Kenya where required.

Qualifications:

Applicants must, at a minimum, be enrolled in a recognised undergraduate programme.

Applicants should be well-organised, self-motivated and reliable, with a strong interest in good governance and anti-corruption reform.

Relevant coursework is highly desirable, and knowledge of foreign languages is a plus.

Basic computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications) are required.

Applicants may either write or email directly to TI-K for the attention of the internship coordinator.

Applicants should submit a cover letter explaining their interest in working with TI-K and outlining any other relevant experience and/or information.

A CV detailing education, work experience and any other relevant technical skills should be attached.

Visiting Fellowships in Human Rights - University of London

Applications are invited for Visiting Fellowships in Human Rights, hosted by the Human Rights Consortium at the School of Advanced Study, University of London.

Visiting Fellowships in Human Rights are granted for a period ranging from one to six months. Office space, access to computing and printing facilities and a library card are provided.

An honorarium of up to £2,000 is offered to one Visiting Fellow in Human Rights each year. Non-stipendiary fellowships may also be offered, subject to space availability.

Fellowship Applications Eligibility:

·         Fellows are usually junior or senior researchers, though applications from those with relevant experience in Human Rights will be considered. Doctoral students are not normally eligible to apply for Visiting Fellowships.
