General News Reporting Course – Thomson Reuters Foundation

Thomson Reuters Foundation has announced course on General News Reporting which will be conducted in  Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from  Nov. 18 – 22, 2013. The mission of this program is to help journalists to recognize their good habits and provide them the time and space to work on their weak points, within a mentored framework. The core activity concerns the actual writing and reporting of news, as practiced by Reuters and other global agencies. Practical exercises form the core of the programme, with an emphasis on improving basic reporting and writing skills including accuracy, impartiality, speed, clarity and structure.

Benefits-

Thomson Reuters Foundation offers bursaries for journalists from the developing world/countries in political transition working for organisations with no resources for training. Restricted bursaries available to journalists based outside Addis Ababa would include travel expenses and budget accommodation. This arrangement is subject to variation.

Eligibility & Criteria-

Applicants must be currently working as a journalist or regular contributor to broadcast media organisations in Addis Ababa. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a commitment to a career in journalism in their country, must have at least two years’ professional experience and have a good level in spoken and written English. If they have been on a Thomson Reuters Foundation training programme within the last two years they will not be eligible to apply.

The Sarajevo 2014 Programme

Proposals are  being accepted for Sarajevo 2014 Programme under EuropeAid. The goal of this program is to contribute to reconciliation in the Western Balkans. This programme is designed to help completing the process of reconciliation in the Western Balkans: “Culture and history play a very important role in the reconciliation and confidence building process in the Western Balkans and as such were part of the cooperation strategy in the Stabilisation and Association process between the Western Balkans and the European Union.”

Objectives-

To contribute to making 2014 a year conveying European values of reconciliation, diversity and the commitment to face challenges together in BiH, in the context of the commemoration of World War I which several Member States will honour in the EU.”

The overall indicative amount made available under this Call for Proposals is € 1.000.000. The initial planned duration of an action may not be lower than 9 months nor exceed 18 months.

Eligibility & Criteria-

    be legal persons
    be non-profit making civil society organisations and/or cultural actors (including municipalities)
    be established in  a Member State of the European Union or candidate countries or potential candidate countries of the Western Balkans (The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo under UNSCR 1244)
    be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary.

Eligibility & Criteria-

    Candidates must be African nationals residing in Africa

    Candidates must have completed 42 days of the online self-development program. Note that in order to submit the application form, candidates do not need to have completed the online self-development program.
    Candidates must have completed at least 1 ONLINE Special Ops.
    
Candidates have good proficiency in written and spoken English language.
    Candidates should be optimistic, be open-minded, show leadership potential, and have a genuine interest in peace.
    Candidates should be young leaders in local, national or international organizations.
    Candidates should send a recommendation letter from their organizations.

World Food Programme’s New Innovation Fund for NGOs – Call for Proposals

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has announced a new Fund for NGOs called ‘the Cooperating Partners’ Innovation Fund’ (CPIF). This Fund aims to promote collaboration with NGOs in the design and development of new tools and approaches for food assistance.

WFP has recognized that NGOs have pioneered “market-based programming approaches that amplify the impact of food assistance programmes. NGOs have also been first movers in adapting private sector technology and business models to social programming and food assistance generally, and specifically to cash and voucher programming.

The focus of this Fund in 2013 is the ‘Cash and Voucher’ programming as a key opportunity for collaboration.

There are up to $1 million in total funds available for autumn 2013 awards. Within the available resources, there is no pre-determined maximum or minimum award. WFP reserves the right to carry over resources to a sub sequent solicitation of proposals.

Eligible applicants include national and international NGOs with valid registration in the country from where the application is initiated and, if different, with documented authorization to work in the country or countries where the proposed innovation will be developed. If selected applicants are not already WFP Cooperating Partners, WFP will undertake standard due diligence to ensure suitability of a partnership relationship prior to issuing an award.

There is no application format or template. Applicants should prepare a proposal in English of not more than 2250 words including a maximum 250 word summary.

This Fund is built on the principles of flexibility and innovation. There are little restrictions but NGOs need to submit innovative project ideas.
