The Peter F. Drucker Award of $100,000 for Non-profit Innovation

The Peter F. Drucker Award of $100,000 for Non-Profit Innovation has been launched for the year 2014. Non-profit organizations demonstrating change that creates a new dimension of performance are invited to submit application for the award. Highly effective programs that have made a demonstrable difference in the lives of the people they serve are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Drucker Institute of Claremont Graduate University offers the annual award which was launched by Peter Drucker himself in 1991. Peter F. Drucker was a writer, professor, management consultant and self-described ‘social ecologist,’ who explored the way human beings organize themselves and interact much the way an ecologist would observe and analyze the biological world. Drucker was faculty at Claremont Graduate University for 30-plus years. In 2002, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

The major purpose of the award is to find the innovators (small or large), recognize and celebrate their example, and to inspire others.

Eligibility Criteria –

    Applicant organization must be an IRS-certified 501(c)(3). Applicant must submit a copy of the 501(c)(3) determination letter along with the application.
    Non-profit under an umbrella organization who do not have 501(c)(3) status can also apply. They must list the parent organization as applicant and their own work as specific program.
    Application can be made for a specific program or for the entire organization.

ISSC Seed Funding for The Transformations to Sustainability Program

The International Social Science Council (ISSC) is accepting grant applications from eligible entities for The Transformations to Sustainability Program. The major aim of the Transformations to Sustainability program is to build scientific understanding of transformative social change in the face of global change and sustainability.

Successful applicants will receive seed funding which allows the researchers or social scientists to build necessary partnerships with colleagues in other disciplines and fields and other countries, to identify and establish contact with relevant societal stakeholders, and to engage them as knowledge partners in the co-design of proposals to develop Transformative Knowledge Networks.

Up to 30 proposals will be awarded up to maximum €30,000 each. The money contributes towards travel, accommodation, workshops and administrative assistance.

Eligibility Criteria:

    Applicants can be individual social science researchers (from academic and other organizations that have a strong focus on research) from any part of the world.
    Applicants must have a PhD in the social sciences or at least 5 years full-time equivalent research experience.
    Applicants must commit to be available and participate in the Transformations Knowledge Workshop to be held in Potsdam, Germany, in September 2014 or, in case of unavailability, to be represented at the workshop by a colleague who will contribute significantly to the proposed work.

The proposal must be accompanied with curriculum vitae including a list of the 5 most relevant publications to the proposal, written indication of availability and commitment to participate in the Transformations Knowledge Workshop.

The Humanitarian Innovation Fund’s Large Grant Facility

Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF) of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) is accepting Expression of Interest (EoI) for Large Grants from non-profit institutions. The grant can be requested for innovative projects in development or implementation stage. Request can be made for grant size in between £75,000 and £150,000.
Steps of Innovation supported through Large Grants -
1.     Development
  • The development of an innovation by creating practical, actionable plans and guidelines.
  • Turning ideas into action, the development stage takes designs from the drawing board and transforms them into real-world solutions.
2.     Implementation
  • Implementation of an Innovation to produce real examples of changed practice, testing the innovation to see how it compares to existing solutions.
  • Often using pilot projects to move beyond proof of concept, this stage establishes how an Innovation performs in practice. Indicating whether it is successful and should be scaled-up.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Lead applicants must be either a non-profit institution such as a non-governmental organization; or a public or governmental institution; or an academic or research institution.
  • The project may be located anywhere in the world and applicant organization can be registered/established anywhere in the world.
  • Proposed innovation can be both in the form of consortia application or a single organization.
  • One organization can submit up to 2 proposals but one organization can be lead (or single) applicant of only one innovation.
  • Proposed innovation must be in a humanitarian response setting as per the definition of humanitarian aid – Humanitarian aid is aid and action designed to save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain and protect human dignity during and in the aftermath of emergencies.
  • Applications must be submitted via online submission portal to be considered for funding.

Humanitarian Innovation Fund’s Small Grant Facility for NGOs

The Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF) has a Small Grant Facility to provide funding support to organizations and individuals to identify, nurture and share innovative and scalable solutions to the challenges facing effective humanitarian assistance.

The Fund seeks to work towards: enabling and supporting humanitarian innovators to move creative ideas through the innovation process; supporting them in building new partnerships with key actors; enabling the lessons from grant funded projects and from analysis of innovation processes in humanitarian contexts to be disseminated more widely; and strengthening existing relationships between humanitarian agencies, academics and those in the private sector engaged in innovation processes.

The basic criteria of applying for the grants at HIF are that the project proposed has to be innovative and it has to be related to humanitarian aid.

HIF’s Small Grant Facility is open all year round and offers grants of up to £20,000 for the recognition, invention & diffusion of a humanitarian innovation.

There are five key stages in the innovation process and our small grants are awarded at three of those stages: Recognition, Diffusion and Invention.

The Humanitarian Innovation Fund’s WASH Grants

The Humanitarian Innovation Fund’s (HIF) WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) Fund gives an opportunity for gives solvers to develop innovative WASH solutions to help save lives and reduce suffering during disasters and humanitarian crises.
The HIF hopes to capture peoples’ imaginations through these challenges, so that when natural disasters or conflicts strike around the world, innovative technologies can help aid workers to extend lifesaving assistance to the most vulnerable people.
The HIF’s WASH facility is managed by Enhancing Learning and Research for Humanitarian Assistance (ELRHA) and supported by UK aid from the UK Government.
Currently there are 2 challenges open under this grant facility
  • Solid-waste Management in Humanitarian Response
  • Latrine Lighting in Emergencies

AGFUND: Human Development Projects Grant for NGOs & Individuals

The Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND) – a funding organization based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia works mainly in the field of development and growth at the international level through an effective partnership with the United Nations Organization, with regional and national development organizations, with public institutions, with the private sector, as well as with organizations of the civil society. Its major grant program is the AGFUND International Prize for Pioneering Human Development Projects.

The Prize has been set up with the aim of inciting and encouraging innovation and creativity in the areas of human development. The idea of the Prize was stemmed from AGFUND’s approach to enhance development performance and support key development projects in order to achieve the goal of sustainability and investment in people.

This year (2014), the prize will be offered in the field of “Marketing of Home Products.”

AGFUND invites the UN, International and regional organizations, ministries and public institutions, NGOs, universities and research centers and experts in the field all over the world to submit their nominations for the Prize, which is worth US $ 500,000 allocated for its four categories.

The Prize has four categories:

FIRST CATEGORY: (US$ 200,000)

The role of UN and international organizations in supporting the developing countries’ programs through marketing of homemade products (For projects implemented by UN, international or regional organizations).

SECOND CATEGORY: (US$ 150,000)

The role of NGOs in marketing of homemade products (For projects implemented by national NGOs).

THIRD CATEGORY: (US$ 100,000)

The role of governmental and public institutions in setting up policies and programs that are supportive to homemade products (For projects implemented by ministries and public institutions).

FOURTH CATEGORY: (US$ 50,000)

Individual-led initiatives for empowerment of woman through marketing of homemade products (For projects initiated, sponsored and/or implemented by individuals).
