Study Abroad Scholarships

Undergraduate students participating in short-term (summer and winter intersession) CUNY study abroad programs may apply for scholarships for Study/Travel Opportunities for CUNY Students (STOCS). National as well as local scholarship opportunities are available to CUNY students interested in pursuing international study or internships.

The major objective of STOCS program is to enhance the number of CUNY students studying overseas by offering scholarships to deserving students. This scholarship has contributed toward the strengthening of existing short-term CUNY study abroad programs and the development of new ones. More than 1,500 CUNY students have received STOCS grants since 1994.

Applications are reviewed by a committee of CUNY faculty and administrators. Grants range from $1,000 to $1,650. Judges base their selections on two main criteria: the benefit of the program to the student’s studies and career plan and financial need. Students with a family income of more than $75,000 are not eligible.

The STOCS programme is funded by the grant from The New York Community Trust DeWitt Wallace/Youth Travel Enrichment Fund.

Alfred Toepfer Natural Heritage Scholarships 2012

The Alfred Toepfer Natural Heritage Scholarships 2012 are now open for applications. These scholarships are awarded at the annual EUROPARC Conference, which will be organized in Genk, Belgium from 22^nd to 25^th October 2012.

The award offers three young European conservationists with €3000 to undertake a study visit to one or more protected areas in European countries other than their own. These scholarships are awarded by the Alfred Toepfer Foundation and the EUROPARC Federation.

The €3000, donated by the Alfred Toepfer Foundation (DE), gives successful scholars the opportunity to gather experience and strengthen their networks. Applicants must be under age 35, of European nationality and themes for applications must be connected to the management of natural areas. All organizational aspects as the selection of candidates are conducted out by the EUROPARC Federation.

The Scholarships enhance international cooperation and advance the quality, innovation and European dimension of the management of natural areas as national parks. At the end of their study visit the scholars should produce a report on their findings which will be shared with practitioners in charge of managing Europe’s natural heritage.

The scholarships were awarded to three individuals from Hungary, Scotland and Belgium. The topics the scholars are currently researching are, management techniques in protected areas, the creation of European partnerships and information sharing in the field of grazing management and improvement of communication between World Heritage marine sites in the Mediterranean Sea.

Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Opportunities

New Zealand Development Scholarship Opportunities

Deadline- May to June each year.

This is the call for applications for the New Zealand development scholarship. The New Zealand development Scholarship is funded by The New Zealand Aid Program, The New Zealand Government’s Overseas A id and development programme.

The purpose of the scholarships is for candidates to gain knowledge and skills through post -graduate study in specific subject areas that will assist in the development of their home country. Awardees are required to return to their home country for at least two years after the completion of their scholarship to apply these new skills and knowledge in government, civil society, or private business organizations.

New Zealand has first-rate education institutions that offer world-recognized qualifications. Successful applicants will have access to excellent academic knowledge in quality facilities. The scholarships include financial support for tuition, living costs while in New Zealand, and airfares. The partners of students are eligible for a work visa that allows them to live and work in New Zealand for the duration of their partner’s study.

Minimum requirement-

The minimum academic requirements for entry into The University of Auckland postgraduate study is an equivalent to a 3 year NZ University bachelor degree with a B average or higher. The minimum English language requirements for entry into The University of Auckland postgraduate study is IELTS

(International English Language Testing System Certificate) with an overall score of 6.5 and no band less than 6.0 or a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) paper based 575 with a TWE of 4.5 or internet based (iBT) 90, writing 21.
