Swiss Re Foundation’s Resource Award for Sustainable Watershed Management

Swiss Re Foundation is inviting NGOs, private, scientific or public institutions and similar bodies to apply for grant award on Sustainable Watershed Management. Projects and initiatives which contribute to raising awareness of the ecological, social and economic significance of water sources and watersheds in developing and emerging countries are highly encouraged to apply for the grant award.
Total grant amount is $150,000 either awarded to only one or more than one projects.
Eligibility Criteria –
    Applicants can be NGOs, private, scientific or public institutions and similar bodies from around the world.
    Projects involving more than one institution (e.g. public-private partnerships) are also eligible for the award.
    Bodies with strong links to the local communities of regions where water sources are located are highly encouraged.
    One applicant can submit only one project per year.
    Applicants must submit a proven track record in sustainability and project planning and/or management in the specific field of water and source management to qualify.

US Department of State Grant ‘Professional Fellows Program’

U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational Affairs (ECA) is inviting proposal submissions for the Professional Fellows Program (PFP) in the regions of Africa (AF), East Asia and the Pacific (EAP), Europe and Eurasia (EUR), the Middle East and North Africa (NEA), South and Central Asia (SCA), and the Western Hemisphere (WHA). The fellows Program is a two-way, global exchange program designed to promote mutual understanding, enhance leadership and professional skills, and build lasting and sustainable partnerships between mid-level emerging leaders from foreign countries and the United States.
The foreign fellows will travel to the United States for a professional fellowship of five- to six-weeks long. The fellowship will include an individually tailored working placement, ‘the fellowship placement,’ for a minimum of four weeks. Approximate award amount is $300,000 to $500,000 which covers cost for 30-50 participants in total including foreign and US participants.

Eligibility Criteria –
    All proposals must be two-way exchange programs.

    Foreign fellows must be emerging leaders, 25-40 years of age with demonstrated proficiency in English language. They must be self-directed individuals genuinely interested in developing an individual project of their own selection in their home workplace or community.
    American Fellows must have demonstrated expertise pertaining to the theme of the program and should have had significant engagement with the foreign fellows during the U.S. fellowship component.

Netherlands Fellowship Program (NFP) is accepting fellowship applications from working professionals in government and non-government organizations who are applying for the short training course ‘Local Economic Development’ by The Hague Academy. The training course aims to strengthen the economic capacity of a regional community to make optimal use of the existing and potential characteristics of the area. Participants will be provided with strategies, tools and approaches to improve conditions for job creation and economic growth.

Netherlands Fellowship on Short Course Integrity and Anti-Corruption by The Hague Academy

The Netherlands organization for international cooperation in higher education (NUFFIC), as part of the Netherlands Fellowship Program (NFP) for short courses, offers the opportunity to apply for a fellowship for the training course ‘Integrity and Anti-Corruption’ by the Hague Academy to be held from 27 October to 7 November 2014. Berghof Foundation’s Grant for Innovation in Conflict Transformation

TUBITAK Research Fellowship for International Researchers

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) is inviting international highly  qualified PhD students and young post-doctoral researchers for Research Fellowship Program. The major purpose of the program is to offer an opportunity to the researchers to pursue their research in Turkey in the fields of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technological Sciences, Medical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities. This is an initiative to promote Turkey’s scientific and technological collaboration with countries of the prospective researchers.
The researchers are offered travel cost (up toUSD$1,000 for round trip), health insurance (up to USD 1,200), a monthly stipend of 2.250 Turkish Liras, and a research grant up to 5.000 Turkish Liars for consumable expenses in the proposed research (only if approved necessary).

Submit applications for Indigenous Fellowship Programme

Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has announced The Indigenous Fellowship Programme (IFP) which focuses to give indigenous peoples the opportunity to gain knowledge on the UN system and mechanisms dealing with human rights in general and indigenous issues in particular so they can assist their organizations and communities in protecting and promoting the rights of their people.
Candidates will have the opportunity to receive training/briefing sessions with other UN and specialized agencies (ILO, WIPO, UNESCO, UNDP, UNITAR) and with other international organizations and Geneva based Human Rights NGOs. Fellows attending the English speaking component of the programme are entitled to the following: a return ticket (economy class) from the country of residence to Geneva; modest accommodation in Geneva for the duration of the Programme; basic health insurance for the duration of the Programme; a monthly grant to cover other living expenses in Geneva.
Eligibility& Criteria-
    The candidate must be indigenous (non-indigenous persons will not be taken into consideration, even if they have close links with indigenous communities and/or organizations).
    Age should not be a limitation to participation in the programme.
    Formal education should not be a limitation to participation in the IFP given the socio-economic barriers confronted by many indigenous peoples that limit access to formal educational institutions.
    Candidates should agree to train other indigenous persons after the return to their respective communities/organizations.
    The candidate should be proposed and his/her candidacy supported by his/her indigenous organization and/or community. It is desirable that the sponsoring organization has a firm constituency or membership and that it is representative.
    The candidate should have a good working knowledge of the language, in which the programme is imparted.

UN-HABITAT’s Urban Youth Fund 2014 now open!

The UN-HABITAT’s Urban Youth Fund provides funding support to young people from developing countries to work towards advancing the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and the Habitat agenda.
The Urban Youth Fund aims to assist youth-led organizations to develop and implement projects that will contribute to sustainable urbanization in the developing world. The fund further aims to document best practices from successful youth-led projects, and create greater awareness of the need for youth mainstreaming in development policies and strategies. Its aims are to:
    Mobilize young people for better youth-related policy formulation;
    Help governments, non-governmental, civil society and private sector organizations better understand and respond to youth concerns;
    Support youth information networks;
    Pilot and demonstrate new ideas on employment, governance, adequate shelter and secure tenure;
    Share and exchange best practices;
    Promote vocational training and credit mechanisms for entrepreneurship and employment;
    Promote gender mainstreaming in all urban youth matters.

The Urban Youth Fund has an annual budget of USD 1 million allocated for grants to youth-led projects in the developing world. Grassroots initiatives and projects are eligible for grants up USD 25,000.

Support is given to youth-led development projects involving young people actively creating a better future for themselves and their communities. Initiatives address a broad range of community needs such as employment, access to affordable housing and secure land tenure, safer cities and participation in decision-making. Atlas Corps Fellowship for NGO Leaders in the United States

Atlas Corps is accepting fellowship applications from individuals around the world to serve in the United States as Atlas Corps fellow. Anzisha Prize for Youth with Business or Social Project

Young individuals or group of people venturing their own business or social projects with demonstrated, measurable and positive social and economic impact are invited to apply for Anzisha Prize 2014. The prize is given to young individuals who have taken a new or better approach to a pressing problem or business opportunity within her/his community, and whose business or social project has the potential to grow or be replicated with support and investment.
Eligibility Criteria –
    Applicant must be between the ages of 15 and 22 years old.
    Applicant’s business or project must be up and running. The Anzisha Prize is not for great ideas or business plans – applicant must have already started, and be able to prove it!
    The business, invention or social project can be in any field or industry (science and technology, civil society, arts and culture, sports, etc.). Any kind of venture is welcome to apply.
    Groups or teams can apply (for example, maybe you have 2 or 3 co-founders who started your business or project together), however applicants must choose one person to apply for the prize, on behalf of the group. This individual must be one of the founding members.

Apply for African Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellowships

African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in partnership with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is calling applications for the African Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellowships (ADDRF) from doctoral students who are within two years of completing their thesis at an African university. The main purpose of the program is to support the training and retention of highly-skilled, locally-trained scholars in research and academic positions across the region.
Priority is given to the dissertation/research topics that show great promise of contributing significantly to efforts to strengthen health systems (governance, equity, health or population-related issues) in the region.
Eligibility Criteria –
    The fellowship will primarily support research (including data collection and/or analysis). Funds will not be used to support coursework.
    Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of a sub-Saharan African country undertaking doctoral training at a recognized African university.
    Applicants must have completed all pre-dissertation requirements.
    Applicants must provide a detailed time-frame for completing their dissertation which should  be endorsed by the head of department or the chair of the dissertation committee.
    Applicants must have a research topic that has been approved by their doctoral dissertation committee, as well as the official body overseeing ethical review of the research protocol, and be able to complete their dissertation within 24 months of the start of the fellowship.
Application materials are – completed application form, proof of citizenship or permanent residence in a sub-Saharan African country, two letters of reference, and evidence that the research protocol has undergone review and received approval from an approved ethical review board and the dissertation committee or is under review for the same.

Columbia Journalism School is seeking nominations of journalists for Maria Moors Cabot Prizes. The major purpose of the prize is to recognize the journalists who has done exceptional and courageous reporting that impacts society, and evidence of commitment to important stories over the course of a long and distinguished career has greater chance to be recognized.

Journalists and news organizations that have made a sustained contribution to Inter-American understanding through their coverage of the Americas; and journalists who have taken active roles in upholding freedom of the press in the Americas are the potential winners of Cabot Prize.

Eligibility Criteria –

•Any journalist and/or news executive who works for any news organization based in the Western Hemisphere or any press association, news service or syndicate that serves such an organization; other individuals, including freelance journalists, with a long record of reporting on the region; all media, including Internet publications can be the nominee.
•All materials should be formatted and uploaded as PDFs. Supporting multimedia presentations can be sent on CD or DVD.

Nominations must be signed by the person submitting it. Materials required are – nominee’s biography and/or curriculum vitae,  statement describing how the nominee has contributed towards international understanding in the Western Hemisphere, at least five but no more than ten (without prior authorization) newspaper or magazine articles, television or radio programs or Internet stories that are representative of the nominee’s work, two copies of each book submitted for consideration (if applicable), and two copies of each CD or DVD for multimedia presentation. OPEC Foundation for International Development (OFID) is accepting applications from graduate students from developing countries for scholarship awards 2014/15. The main purpose of the scholarship program is to sponsor the outstanding young students to complete Master’s degree.
Eligibility Criteria –
    Applicant must be between the ages of 23-32 at the time of submitting his/her application.
    Applicant must have obtained or be on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree with a Baccalaureate from an accredited college/university, or its equivalent.
    Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 rating system, or its equivalent.
    Applicant must be matriculated at an accredited university for the upcoming academic year starting August/September 2013, and must maintain full-time status for the duration of the Master’s Degree.

The Intercultural Innovation Award by United Nations Alliance of Civilizations

United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), in partnership with BMW Group, is inviting not-for-profit organizations  for the Intercultural Innovation Award 2014. The major aim of the award is to strengthen their commitment to encouraging cultural diversity and coexistence among communities.
Innovative and sustainable projects around the world that are promoting dialogue and cooperation among people from different cultural backgrounds using novel and creative methods are expected as entries.
Award –
    Ten organizations receive the award every year. Winners become members of the World Intercultural Facility for Innovation (WIFI).
    Awardees get one-year support and consulting from the UNAOC and the BMW Group.
Eligibility Criteria –
    Entry must be projects implemented by non-for-profit organization such as a non-governmental organization, charitable organization, research and educational institution, labor union, indigenous group, faith-based organization, professional association, foundation and local or municipal branches of government.
    Applying organizations must have been operational for a minimum of 2 year before August 28, 2014; with funding base and project implementation.
    Applying organization’s field of action must fall within at least one of the following themes – migration and integration; intercultural awareness; education for intercultural citizenship; the role of specific groups (faith-based; women; youth; media) in promoting intercultural understanding.
    The applying organization must have the willingness to expand the range of action of the project with the UNAOC, the BMW Group and other partners.
    Organizations that have previously received any UNAOC recognition are not eligible.
    Projects that have been submitted to previous editions are eligible and encouraged to apply again.

Eligibility Criteria –
    Youth ages 13-19 are eligible to participate by teaming up with adult educators who are from any school or youth organization worldwide. But participation is not open to any resident of the following countries: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria.
    Media must be original, high-quality youth produced content that creatively express the vision for driving positive change in local communities.
    All submissions must be submitted by an educator who has worked directly with the youth producers of the project. The educator must be participating in Adobe Youth Voices, either through Adobe Youth Voices partnerships or as a registered member of the Adobe Youth Voices Community.
    Entered media must be able to present potential solutions through visual storytelling

International Institute for Asian Studies Fellowship

International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) is inviting fellowship applications from outstanding researchers around the globe who want to apply as ‘Affiliated Fellow’ to work on an important piece of Asian Studies research in the social sciences and humanities.
The recipient will be offered a monthly grant of €1,100, housing, and one-time grant of maximum €1,000 towards the costs of international travel.
Eligibility Criteria –
    Applicants must have fulfilled all requirements of the PhD. Applicants can be PhD candidate at the time of application provided that s/he graduate within 6 months after the application deadline. Candidate must submit letter of confirmation from the university.
    Applicants must be outstanding researchers from anywhere in the world with desire to work on an important piece of Asian Studies research in the social sciences and humanities. Researchers who would like to work on a collaborative grant proposal or develop their PhD thesis into book publication are also eligible.

Youth Action Net Laureate Global Fellowship 2014 for Young Leaders

Youth Action Net is seeking applications from young leaders who have pioneered solutions to urgent challenges in their communities and beyond for Laureate Global Fellowships 2014. The major purpose of the fellowship program is to develop leadership expertise in young leaders and deepen their impact through a dynamic, year-long learning experience. Fellows also get an opportunity to join a network of over 900 change-makers like them who continue to benefit from learning opportunities and connections throughout their social change careers.
Eligibility Criteria –
    Applicants must be 18 – 29 years old as of 1 October 2014
    Applicants must be the founders or co-founders of existing ventures with at least one year of impact.
    Applicants must be fluent in English and must be committed to  attend a week-long leadership retreat in October 2014.

International Union for Conservation of Nature Small Grants for Purchase of Nature

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) National Committee of the Netherlands is inviting small grants pre-proposals from local NGOs for the purchase of nature. The main purpose of the project is to contribute to conservation of biodiversity by supporting the strategic acquisition through purchase or lease – of threatened nature, and placing the ownership or management rights in the hands of local nature conservation NGOs.
Priority is given to the use of available local expertise and legal advisors. Maximum grant size is Euro 85,000.

    Applicants must have proven capacity to implement land acquisition projects.
    Applicants must have experience and capacity concerning the management of a conservation area.

People’s Trust for Endangered Species ‘Worldwide Small Grants Program’ 2014

People’s Trust for Endangered Species is accepting proposals from scientific researchers and workers in the field of conservation for Worldwide Small Grants Program 2014. The major purpose of the grant program is to support the works that aim the conservation of individual endangered species and their habitats.

The program offers grants between £2,000 and £8,000 for projects of up to two years duration.

Categories –

    PTES Worldwide – suitable for research or conservation projects that focus on one or more endangered species, or their habitat.
    PTES Mammal – especially for projects on mammal species in the British Isles and Republic of Ireland.

Eligibility Criteria –

    For PTES Worldwide grants, applicants must be already working and established in either the UK, UK overseas territories or any county not classified by the World Bank as high-income.
    For PTES Mammal grants, proposed projects must be based in the British Isles or Republic of Ireland.

PTES also provides Worldwide Continuation Grants. The grants are for projects that are being held from time ahead, the grants amount are larger (between £10,000 and £25,000) for projects of between two and five years duration annually awarded in July with April as deadline to submit proposals.
