IREX-World Photo Contest

IREX enables local individuals and institutions to build key elements of a vibrant society: quality education, independent media, and strong communities.

Prizes: There are four prizes total.
A panel of international development and media photography experts will choose the winners for the Grand Prize and Best of an IREX Focus Area. The President’s Choice will be decided by IREX’s president, Ambassador W. Robert Pearson. Members of IREX’s online social networks will help choose a People’s Choice winner. IREX may also select up to five honorable mention finalists. Winners will be announced the week of June 25, 2012.

Brief Contest Rules

• Entries are limited to 5 photos per person.
• Entrants may only win one prize.
• Acceptable files are .jpg, .tif or .png at the high resolution.
• All entrants must hold exclusive rights to the photographs they submit and by entering are   claiming such ownership.
• By entering the Contest, all entrants grant an irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide non-exclusive   license to IREX, to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the entries. For   more information on liability, please see the complete contest rules.

Call for Proposals: ESRC-DFID Joint Scheme for Research on International Development (Poverty Alleviation)

ESRC and DFID have jointly funded short to medium term poverty focused research since 2005. There have been six calls so far, with 46 projects funded under Phase 1 and 37 projects funded under Phase 2 – www.esrc.ac.uk/funding-and guidance/funding-opportunities/international-funding/esrc-dfid/phase1-awards.aspx.

The scheme has funded a diverse range of high quality work so far but the Independent Review of Phase 1 -(a further group of projects will be funded in 2012). The aim of the joint scheme is to provide a more robust conceptual and empirical basis for international development. It also aims to enhance the quality and impact of social science research which contributes to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and the shaping of the post-2015 agenda. Both funders have a strong commitment to commissioning world class research and ensuring that the resulting evidence is useful to stakeholders and policy makers.

ELIGIBILITY-

• The ESRC and DFID welcomes applications from researchers, normally located in a Higher Education Institute. Researchers in non-HE institutions, for example from government departments or from the third sector are also invited to apply. Researchers may be based in either UK or non-UK organisations with recognised research capacity.
• Applications from non-UK institutions are welcome. Applications from teams of people are also welcome.

Call for Applications-Scholarship for the Master of Arts in Politics and Security Program 2012-2013

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek invites applications for the Master of Arts in Politics and Security Programme 2012-2013. The Programme offers advanced courses in political science, international relations and a range of applied disciplines in comprehensive security and conflict prevention and resolution with a focus on Central Asia.  The MA program is supported by the OSCE and a number of OSCE participating states and partner institutions. The coursework starts on 3 September 2012 and finishes on 30 September 2013.

Eligibility-

• Successful completion of an academic degree of higher education (BA, MA, MSc, Diploma) in Political Science and other related fields, or enrollment in the final year of an undergraduate degree
• Excellent knowledge of English
• Applicants should not be older than 32 years on 3 September 2012
• Citizenship preferably of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan
• Applicants from other OSCE participating states can be accepted for the program, but on a limited basis only.

IRENA Scholarship Programme

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) concluded the selection process and we are pleased to accept our first 20 Students to the IRENA Scholarship Programme at Masdar Institute for Science and Technology, Abu Dhabi.The students will conduct their research in renewable energy related fields, benefit from an exclusive Lecture Programme focussing on renewable energy policies, technologies and trends, and receive support from IRENA that is complementary to the knowledge facilitated at Masdar Institute.

Eligibility-     

• Relevant undergraduate degree from a college, university or technical college of acceptable standing in the field of science, engineering or information technology
• Minimum CGPA required: 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.
• Competence in spoken and written English. Minimum TOEFL score: 91 (IBT) on the international TOEFL. Minimum academic IELTS score: 6.5.
• Minimum GRE quantitative score: 700(or 155 on the new scale) .
• Academic record and credentials must indicate the ability to achieve distinction.
