The BBC World Challenge 2011 seeks to provide recognition to projects or small businesses demonstrating enterprise and innovation at the grassroots level. BBC World News Limited and Newsweek are looking for nominations of social entrepreneurs who are making a difference without costing the earth.
Nominations of projects or ideas that demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit working for the benefit of the community whilst adopting a responsible approach can be submitted. The entries have to show initiative especially the use of technology or an invention in an innovative manner. The projects/business should increase investment into the local community and take a responsible approach towards environment.
Nominations submitted should fall under one of the following categories:
* Community Welfare and Enterprise
* Health and Education
* Sustainable Farming
* Energy
* Water
* Environment
The World Challenge 2011 provides recognition to the winner of the competition with an award of US $20,000. The second and their Finalist also receive grant of US $10,000.
