UNFAO Near East seeks entries for Photography Competition on Forests from photographers in the region

The United Nations Assembly has declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests (IYF) with the purpose of raising awareness on sustainable management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests.
In continuance of these celebrations related to the Year of Forests, United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (UNFAO) has been organizing series of activities in different regions of the world region and across the globe, to keep people connected to what is going on in the world of forests.

Engaging people to promote dialogue about forests in its international year, FAO Near East Regional Office has announced a photography competition: “Forests in Photos”.

The competition, which started on July 17, is about taking professional photography shots of forests in countries of Near East region. Photos must be submitted with short caption describing the forest, e.g. its place (city and country) and its distance.

The best five photos will be displayed on FAO RNE website, with highlights of the photographer’s name and country.

Conditions:

        Photographer must be a citizen of a Near East country.

        Photos must be original. Date should be shown in the photo.

        Photos must be of a forest in Near East region.

        Photographer must submit 250 word essay describing his/her background, referring to his /her sources of information about forests and other environmental issues.

Last date for submission of entries is August 30, 2011.
