Open Society Initiative for Sothern Africa (OSISA) has been engaged in building vibrant and tolerant democracies in southern Africa by means of different thematic and country focused programs, which provide grants to civil society organizations.
Grants are approved by the OSISA board on a quarterly basis, and the foundation accepts applications twice a year, through open calls. Updated and mini-calls are also issued from time-to-time.
In its latest call for proposals, OSISA is seeking inviting civil society organizations or state actors from Southern Africa for its projects beginning after March 2012.
Objectives
- Promote an ethos of transparency and accountability;
- Build skills and capacities, with a focus on the most vulnerable first;
- Promote tolerance by building bridges with marginalized groups;
- Promote public and citizen participation in policy and law-making processes; and,
- Encourage debate and foster dialogue to promote pluralism

To be eligible, you must:
- Represent an NGO, cooperative, government department or entity, network, alliance, academic institution or forum that is legal registered in your country;
- Be legally registered and/or work closely with an organisation that is reputable and legally registered;
- Work with minority groups or communities of vulnerable people with an emphasis on sexual minorities, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, women and young people.
Grants will be awarded based on available funding and the priorities outlined on our website for each program. Grant awards are for one year. Multiyear funding will be contingent upon availability of funding and submission of satisfactory progress reports.
Last date for submission of proposals is October 10, 2011.
